As Seen On

There is a magical kind of energy to a SoHo opening night. The light shifts on Mercer Street, the door thickens with people, and the room slowly fills with friends, editors, designers, stylists, and creatives who shape the way New York dresses.

On the night WeWearAustralian opened the doors of its 5,000 square foot flagship at 69 Mercer Street, that crowd showed up in pieces styled straight from designers.

We have been waiting to introduce The We Wear Index.

It is our ongoing style series, a running record of the people who shape our community wearing the Australian designers we curate, in the city we now call home.

So here is where we started, on the night we opened in SoHo.

Every look featured here is in store at 69 Mercer Street and online at wewearaustralian.com, shipped locally from New York with no duties, no customs forms, no waiting on freight from Australia.

A new chapter in Australian fashion in the US. A new way to see how it gets worn. Welcome to The We Wear Index.

The first thing you noticed walking into 69 Mercer Street was how the room moved.

The New York eye on Australian design

What Australian fashion does well, the New York eye recognizes immediately.

A quiet confidence built around natural fibers, considered tailoring and a relaxed approach to luxury.  On opening night, the people who attended understood the assignment without needing to be told.

Freya Drohan, writer and editor at Vogue. Kelly Atkinson, founder and creative director at WeWearAustralian, in the Cinca Fringe Maxi Skirt by ESSE Studios.
Amandine Pouilly, model and creative director, in the Paix Quilted Jacket and Starry Sheer Skirt by Oh So Troppy.
Francesca Keller, actress, producer and DJ, in the Mina Gown by ATOIR.
Laura Brown, journalist and author, in the Linus Kheos Stripe Shirt by Ilio Nema.

The room, the walls, the wardrobe

Stone, cork, timber and linen, paired with a sunlit palette pulled from the Australian landscape. Original works by Tan Arlidge, Amelia Axton, Henryk and Tom Butterworth sit alongside Emerging and Established Australian Fashion and Interiors.

On opening night, the people standing in front of those walls became part of the story, and every piece they wore is shoppable now, in USD, shipped from our New York warehouse. No duties, no customs holds, no three week wait. Click a look, walk it into your wardrobe.

Or walk into 69 Mercer Street and see it in person.
